Dear Governor Christie, I am writing you to express my support for the proposed North Brunswick Train Station and Town Center, also known as the proposed North Brunswick Transit Village. This is a unique opportunity for you, your administration, and all commissioners to be bold, imaginative leaders and take action for the future of New Jersey. We MUST invest in transit infrastructure in Central New Jersey to meet the demand. Multi year waiting lists and long drives to the current train stations in Princeton and New Brunswick require regional commuters to spend too much time in cars and traffic. NJ Transit needs this new station in Middlesex County and has known this for over 30 years! It is vital to the future economic growth of the Route 1 corridor as an economic engine for the region and New Jersey. Moreover, the Transit Village will provide opportunities for sustainable development practices including clean energy. Building a Transit Village in North Brunswick is an opportunity to highlight the State Plan for land use growth. It provides for the organized growth of the Route 1 corridor and New Jersey. It allows for a change of course away from needless waste of the land, sprawl, disorder, congestion, and mounting taxes, and moves towards a direction of order, beauty, financial stability, sustainability, and sincere concern for the world we leave to our children and grandchildren. This Transit Village plan for North Brunswick is an opportunity to create the first new sustainable American town center, built following the principles of Smart Growth and for the way we must live in the 21st century to reduce global warming. I fully support the proposal to build a train station and Transit Village on Route 1 in North Brunswick and urge you to act swiftly to make this project a reality.
